2024 Sack Symposium Program and Resource Materials

The purpose of the 2024 Allen Sack National Symposium is to address national issues having a critical impact on college athletic programs. Speakers and panelists will discuss college athletes’ well-being with a focus on hazing, bullying, coach misconduct, and the little-known fact that thousands of college athletes experience food and shelter insecurity, depression, and other mental health issues. We will also examine gambling in college sports and the dangers match fixing poses to college athletes and the harm sports betting companies are causing the high-addiction-risk student population. Lastly, we look at the precarious economic future of college athletics and whether higher education will succeed in balancing commercialism and academic integrity.

On May 19, 2022, The Allen Sack National Symposium – Advancing Integrity in College Sports, was named in honor of this former athlete, nationally recognized scholar, and activist leader whose professional life was devoted to protecting college athletes from educational and economic exploitation, sex and race discrimination, and physical and mental abuse.

The purpose of the 2023 Allen Sack National Symposium was to address the causes of poor graduation rates among minority college athletes.  Speakers focused on male and female scholarship athletes who are participating in football and basketball at the highest competitive levels of the NCAA – athletes who are majority minority and whose sports annually generate $15.8 billion in annual revenues for their athletic programs.  Speakers offered remedies to inform decision makers, including athletics and higher education stakeholders, policymakers, and college athletes themselves. Full recording will be posted soon.
