Speakers address the evolving landscape of college sports, the possibility of new academic models, athlete mental and physical health, how changing economics will impact diversity in coaching and administration, and the current state of Title IX.
Meet Allen L. Sack, Ph.D.
On May 19, 2022, The Allen Sack National Symposium – Advancing Integrity in College Sports, was named in honor of this former athlete, nationally recognized scholar, and activist leader whose professional life was devoted to protecting college athletes from educational and economic exploitation, sex and race discrimination, and physical and mental abuse.

“The College Athlete: More than a Marketplace”

Speakers address college athletes’ well-being with a focus on hazing, bullying, coach misconduct, food and shelter insecurity, depression, and other mental health issues. Also examined: wagering, match fixing, and gambling addiction risks in college sports, the precarious economic future of college athletics, and whether higher education will succeed in balancing commercialism and academic integrity.

Speakers offer remedies to low graduation rates of male and female scholarship athletes participating in football and basketball at the highest competitive levels of the NCAA – athletes who are majority minority and whose sports annually generate $15.8 billion in annual revenues for their athletic programs.
