The Drake Group shares observations critical of the Fairness in Collegiate Athletics Act, a federal bill intended to protect the employment rights of college athletes proposed by U.S. Senator Marco Rubio of Florida. The Act gives the NCAA and their member institutions a blank check – protection from lawsuits and control of the definition of ‘amateur status’– which would allow institutions to continue acting in their own financial interests at the expense of college athletes’ financial interests.
