Alan Page is an associate justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court. Most people realize that Page, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, had a stellar athletic career while playing for the Minnesota Vikings. What many people do not know is that in 1988, Page and his wife Diane founded the Page Education Foundation. That foundation provides much-needed financial and mentoring assistance to students of color in exchange for those students’ commitment to further volunteer service in the community. The Page Foundation had awarded grants to several thousand students, who in turn have given thousands of hours to mentoring children. According to Drake Group President Allen Sack, who played with Page on Notre Dame’s 1966 National Championship Football Team, “Alan knows that the purpose of college is not to create athletes, but well educated citizens.

Page has been recognized for his commitment to educating children. Among his awards is an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from the University of New Haven in 1999. He also has Honorary Doctorates in Humane Letters from the University of Notre Dame, Winston-Salem State University, and Gustavus Adolphus College, as well as Honorary Doctorates of Laws from the University of Notre Dame, St. John’s University, Westfield State College, and Luther College.
